Warroad Schools provides a comprehensive educational service alternatives for all students with a wide range of learning disabilities, social/emotional-behavioral challenges and mental or physical impairments. We provide special instruction and services appropriate to each student who range in age from birth through age 21, or through graduation from high school. 

The Special Education Department staff are made up of licensed special education teachers along with related service staff in the areas of speech and language services, occupational and physical therapy, and other services designated to meet the educational needs of all students.

Appropriate program alternatives meet the special educational needs, goals and objectives of each student based on their individual needs. Choice of specific program alternatives are determined by the student's current levels of performance, special education needs, goals and objectives outlines in their written Individual Education Plan (IEP) for students age 3 to 21 or an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSp) for infants to toddlers.

As you watch your child grow, you may become concerned about your child’s development. While all young children grow and change at their own rate, sometimes you may have concerns that your child is developing differently than other children the same age as your child.

If you have concerns about child’s development, birth to Kindergarten, call Minnesota Help Me Growat 1-866-693-GROW (4769) or use the referral form on the web site at http://helpmegrowmn.org/HMG/Refer/. Once a referral is made to the local early intervention program, the family will be contacted by an early intervention teacher to arrange for a screening or evaluation to determine if your child is eligible for infant and toddler intervention or preschool special education services.

General education teachers can effectively meet some of the needs of students with learning and behavior problems within the general education classroom. Situations arise, however, when a teacher needs a support system to help with students who present unique learning and adjustment problems. Parents who have a concern about their child’s learning or progress in school are encouraged to first talk with their child’s classroom teacher. Pre-referral interventions may be put in place that will resolve the concern.

If concerns continue or you want to make a referral for special education evaluation, contact your child’s building principal. You will be asked to complete a brief referral form. You may be asked to meet with a team of individuals to plan the evaluation. After a plan has been made for the evaluation and you have given the district permission to proceed, an evaluation will be conducted to determine if your child meets the Minnesota criteria for special education services.

Early Intervention

The purpose of Alternative Delivery of Specialized Services (ADSIS) is to provide instruction to assist students who need additional academic or behavioral support to succeed in the general education environment. The goal is to reduce the number of referrals to special education by providing support early to struggling students. Districts are expected to align the ADSIS program within their existing continuum of supports and collect data as specified in the application and submit evaluation information to the Minnesota Department of Education each year to determine program impact. The purpose of Title 1 under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA) is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments.

Warroad Schools Extended school Year (ESY) is available for students whose Individual Education Plan (IEP) dictate participation. All enrollees will be identified by Case Managers (per IEP Team).

Transportation for ESY students is provide and bus schedules will be provided to parents/guardians by the assigned Case Managers.

Consistent with the school district general records retention schedule, Warroad Schools will be destroying special education records created for students who have graduated or left the district prior to the May 2009 school year or have a birthdate prior to September 1991.
