I am new to the community of Warroad, Minnesota.  My fiance and I moved here from Minneapolis, and we are excited to be a part of this community.  I am the Reading Specialist who will be working with the 7th and 8th graders this year.  I am originally from Worthington, Minnesota.  During middle school, my family relocated to Hopkins, Minnesota, where I attended St. John the Evangelist.  After middle school, I attended Totino-Grace High School.  During high school I was active in band, theater, and choir.  However, I decided to leave Totino-Grace my senior year,  and attend Fridley, High School.  I did this so that I would have the opportunity to participate in post-secondary through the University of Minnesota.  After graduating from Fridley High School, I was accepted into the University of Minnesota CLA program.  Here, I majored in English and Creative Writing.  One highlight from my college experience was having the opportunity to study abroad in England for one academic year.  I attended the University of London and gained a deeper knowledge of the English content area.  When I completed this program I came back to the United States to complete my BA in English.  In 2005, I was accepted into the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota.  I received my initial licensure in 2007, and completed my M.ed in 2012.  Prior to this position, I had been teaching at Minnesota Transitions Charter School in Minneapolis. During my five years there, I taught 9th grade Writing, 10th grade reading, and Creative Writing.  In the past, I have been a mentor to new teachers, led teacher workshops/meetings, and was an English Department Head for three years.   I am passionate about what I teach, love to build relationships with students/parents, and I look forward to working with the students of Warroad.  It is my goal to share my passion with the students and help them become better readers.
